A fire is the center of warmth and food when backpacking or hiking. missionstatement If the backpacking or hiking is taking place during cold months, the "pea" could freeze. Not only does this make returning to the campsite easier at night, it also deters possible intruders. Now, you may be in a reserved campsite area, but you still must consider the local wildlife. If you are bringing pets on your camping trip, you will want to keep them in a shaded area and out of the direct sunlight.
